Kansas Supreme Court ruled that strippers are eligible for unemployment. The court ruled that exotic dancers are employees of their club, and not just contractors. It all started in 2005 when a exotic dancer from Topeka Club Orleans was denied unemployment because the club argued that she rented her space on the stage and earned money through tips. The court ruled that the dancers were employees, not just independent contractors.
Dancers have to follow house rules so club owners will have to contribute to the state unemployment-insurance fund. The whole decision was based on the fact that the club had rules which were requested by the dancer. The lawyer of the strip club does not plan on appealing the decision.
What are your views on this? Do you think strippers should get unemployment? I guess clubs will start offering their employees insurance to.
